I went to Edinburgh College of Art and graduated in 1995 with a honours degree in design specialising in silversmithing.
I then joined Hamilton and Inches (Edinburgh) where I worked as a jobbing silversmith for 14 years. During this period I started making my own designs in my spare time, notably this work included a condiment set for “The Millennium Collection” in 2000 and a claret jug for “The Silver of the Stars” collection in 2006 both commissioned by The Incorporation of Goldsmiths.
In 2013 I moved to Blairgowrie and set up a small workshop at home. In 2015 I began taking part in Perthshire Open Studios. I continued to develop my business over the next few years, increasing my customer base.
In June 2018 I opened “Sarah Cave Silversmith” a shop and studio space on the High Street in Blairgowrie.
"I design and make a range of silverware as well as jewellery. Most of my silverware is “hand raised”. This is a traditional technique of producing form using basic hand tools. I work the flat sheet of silver over steel tools or “stakes” using a raising hammer to produce a form, each one being unique and I aim to make pieces which are attractive to look at but also feel good in the hand"
